Powder Coating

Writer: Sam Rosenberg

Powder coating is an effective method for protecting metalwork from corrosion and damage. It is a dry finishing process typically used on metal parts. During this process, powder is adhered to a workpiece using electrostatic forces. The powder is then cured onto the workpiece in an oven, resulting in the desired coating.

Developed in the 1960s, for coating aluminum extrusions such as window frames, this finishing method is primarily used to coat metal parts although other materials, including certain plastics, are now used as well. The procedure has a broad range of indoor and outdoor applications, from automotive parts to domestic and office products.
